Default brake pedal not returning

I have a 67 289 convertible. During the restoration I upgraded from drums to power discs on the front (SSBC conversion). Now, the brake pedal does not return to the original position. Should there be a return spring? What causes the pedal to return after you release it?

The MC is what causes it to return. Did you use an adjustable pushrod?

When I did the dual bowl conversion on my wife's 66, I had to change out the rod due to it being a different length. If you still have the old parts, you might want to look at the length differences and maybe get an adjustable one like TexasAxMan suggested.

A new master cylinder came with the conversion kit.

Has anyone had this problem with the SSBC conversion?

It's not just that the pedal does not return to the same position, but the brakes also lock up. I have to pull the pedal back out after braking or the car will not move when in gear. Would the pushrod length affect this?

Nope, does the rod/pedal move freely?
