The other issue is that the stock replacments are only like a 2" exhaust pipe which if you have any kind of performance motor is too small IMO. I would go with at least a 2.25 - 2.50" exhaust pipe with an H or X pipe so the motor can breath.

Skip looking at any exaust that says cat in it. You dont have cats and dont need to worry about them. i have never tried to put Fox headers on a classic but i would think you would run into firewall and steering clearance issues.

I would recommend sticking with a kit designed for a classic or check out a custom exaust shop. You will probably be surprised at the price as long as you stick with a simpler system.

Spend some time at car shows listening to the sound of different mufflers(or youtube). Each make of muffler has its own sound and its up to you as to what sound you want for your car.

I had a pipe made and welded going from my header to my muffler and it only cost like $20.

I don't know about what headers will/won't work, but I'd just get it custom-made from the headers back - saves hassle of possibly the wrong setup and might save you some money too (depends)

As for mufflers, I like the Flowmaster 40 or 50 (quieter) series. They sound deep and tough to me.

One other good thing about car shows is it will give you a chance to talk with some of the local guys and ask them thier experiences with the local muffler shops. Which ones are good, which ones jerked them around. Do some car show google searches for your local area i bet their will be one or two going on today.

Better ground clearance, less radiant heat under the car. Full-length headers are overkill on street-driven cars, unless you do a lotta stoplight racing. I had full-length headers on mine for years, finally ditched them for HP manifolds, never been sorry.

More clearance. Performance wise the long tubes scavenge better but this isnt a big factor for street cars. But my opinion is that if the long tubes are on, in good shape and you dont hate them then leave them on. But thats just my opinion.
