Ford installed the engine and transmission as a complete power package, and removal can easily be the opposite. The assembly included the engine, transmission, cooler lines (auto), H or Y pipe (headpipe on 6 cyl) all three motor mounts, and the transmission crossmember.

When you do it, jack the rear end up as far as possible. The radiator and tranny fluid lines should definitely be off as well, along with everything else that can be easily removed from the engine. I did it as a unit, but if I was to do it again, I'd put in the engine first and then put in the tranny, JMHO.

I always completely remove the hood to get it outta the way.
PARKING BRAKE SET!!! Or at least chock the wheels.

Underneath:
Drive shaft at rear axle.
Drive shaft at transmission (plug tailshaft housing).
Speedometer cable.
Transmission oil lines.
Transmission shift linkage.
Transmission mount.
Starter cable at starter.
Fuel line at pump inlet.

Up top:
Engine wiring (ignition, oil pressure, temp, alternator).
Throttle linkage.
Remove carb (to prevent damage).
Remove radiator (same reason).
Distributor cap and plug wires (ditto).
Remove alternator and any other accessories.
Exhaust manifolds.
Engine mounts.
