How to paint engine?
Painting my '67 289. Should everything (block, intake, heads, water pump, oil pan, dipstick tube) be painted as an assembly, or individually then assembled? Valve covers painted separate?
Pulleys, brackets, balancer semi-gloss black?
Thanks

I'd say mainly just the block, head and intake need to be assembled for painting, unless you mask off internals/gasket surfaces (the internals you'll need to mask off either way).
I used duplicolor high temp engine paint and it has held up well.

im doing it now on my 67 289, i painted exhaust manifolds, heads, intake manifold, block, timing cover, oil pan, dark ford blue, and i used a engine high temp primer before that. i painted all the accessories semi gloss black. i could post pics if you want
If it's all one color, paint as an assembly. That's the way it came from the factory. The problem with assembling afterwards is marks on the bolts and around the bolts. It looks assembled and not like an assembly. The exception is for parts of a different color. The best way then is in pieces as it's hard to mask without it looking like it were masked.
