Default specific help on factory a/c

I recently installed a factory 66 ford a/c unit into my 66.

it blows decent but not that cold. It has been converted over.

-the fan works great however that temp select **** just rotates. it has a selection from one to 5, 5 being the coldest. Since that switch seems to be broken, could that be the reason it is not getting that cold?

-i am just starting to look, however can that switch be replaced?

-that selector switch also has two wires on the rear. i assume this switch creates resistance for the coil? if so, can i connect the two wires together and get max cooling?

I know that converted over systems do not get as cold but i think it should still be colder than it is.

if they didnt flush the oldoilbefore converting you might have what they call "black death" its where the whole internal lines etc get gummed up from being mixed/.....

The thermostat could be bypassed, but if the cooling is any good it would ice over, killing effectiveness. Just get a new thermostat.

Why don't you just have it flushed and charged with R-12? My 66 R-12 charged unit blows ice-cold.

can it be charged with r-12 after being converted. It also has a new style compressor.

well i did a little research. I completely disassembled the thermo switch cleaned lubed and put back togeter. it works good. stops where it should and it is a bit cooler.

i still want it colder. can it go to r12 with the sanden compressor

I'm no expert on refrigerants, but it seems to me the problem with conversion was putting R134 in R12 systems was causing damage to seals, etc., not the other way around.
