Will it really help me out to add tourqe boxes?
I read a article on here about front tourqe boxes added to a coupe, and I was wondering if I really need them? I asked my local shop and the guy said no. I am building a weekend driver that I want to preform nicely and I am replacing alot of sheetmetal now so it would be a good time. Thanks for your input. Brent
+1 That is, If the rest of the car is able to take advantage of them. No point in doing it if your floor is a patchwork quilt of seams and welds that may be over ground, over heated or just plain thin.
Connecting the front frame to the rockers connects the two heaviest parts of metal in the car together.
I added boxes to my 65 Fastback when I replaced the floor and it really made the car stiffer than I expected, and I get to put the new suspension to work without as much flex in the car. Honestly just the new floor had to do wonders.

Do you need them? No....
Could you use them?.... YES!!!
The car will be tighter with them installed.
I'm putting them in our '65 coupe along with sub frame connectors.
Those two things along with a new suspension and the car would be a different animal.

Ford, who didn't spend 2¢ on these cars they didn't have to (it mighta cost them $1 per car to galvanize the bottom of the cowl) put them on all convertibles, added the left one to 67 coupes and FB, and all Mustangs, even the 6 cylinder cars got them 68-73. If Ford thinks a 6 cylinder grandma car needs them, I'd say a hard-driven V8 does. This is more important than the subframe connectors you hear so much about.
Not sure what BTW is? But I am doing the work myself. I have replaced the rad support, inner aprons, firewallcowl side pieces, rocker, a and b pillers, lower cowl air ducts, and am looking toward the pans...wish I would have picked a better car.... Thanks for your input. Brent
Btw = by the way.
My point is that your car has one floor pan, floorpans is not really a correct term to use to some. If you plan on installing torque boxes for stiffness, then using patch panels is counter productive, I always suggest using a one piece floor pan.
Besides, doing the one piece can be easier than trying to graft in sections.
