Default 67 Package Tray Installation Problem

I just picked up a replacement package tray from CJ Pony Parts. I got it to fit under the window gasket but I'm unsure how the front lip is contained. I think it goes over the quarter trim panels, but how is the tray anchored in the front? As it is right now, the tray warps a little bit without any anchors in the front.

Also, there was some material that looked similar to fiberglass insulation between the package tray and the metal tray support. Is there an insulation that goes below the tray?

On my 65 there were two metal tabs that I had to bend onto the front lip that would touch the seat back. Not sure if the 67 is the same.

I just installed one in my 68. Did you take the back seat out? wonso79 is right, there are two metal tabs that hold the front lip. It also should go under the quarter trim panels.

I had a lot of room within the gasket, so I pushed the tray as deep as I could into the gasket, traced the quarter trim panels, and notched the tray with a jigsaw. Once notched, slide it all the way into the gasket, then pull it forward under the quarter trim panels, hiding the notches, and it should slide into the metal tabs. Put your seat back in and you should be good to go.

Let me know if that makes sense. If not I can try and explain it better.

I saw elsewhere that the package tray goes on top of the quarter panels. Based on what both of you are saying, there will be a void between the package tray panel and the metal. Is this right? How do the speakers mount then? Are they attached firmly to the metal or do they hang from the fiberboard?

The rear speakers from the factory attached to the studs on the bottom of the factory speaker grille. An excellent repo of this grille is available. It'll sound like crap if you don't install the factory-style sound deadener between the steel shelf and the tray. Very cheap, very effective.

2+2 are you saying the speakers are mounted to the fiberboard package tray using the speaker grills?

No. Here's how it goes:

Speaker grille, painted to match tray, with 1" studs sticking out the bottom

Package tray, fiberboard, textured side up

1/2" sound deadener

Steel panel

Speaker

Speaker retaining nuts

But when all is said and done, the speakers are suspended from the fiberboard package tray and not the metal plate. Correct?
