Buy it cheap and rebuild it. Still cheaper than new.

You could try shifting it, pay close attention to third gear.

Google search T5 transmission id and do some reading before going out to the junk yard. Here are some links to get you started. http://www.5speeds.com/t5/ http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Bo...T5-ID-Tags.htm The fast way to tell a non-WC from a WC is to tip it up on end and if 90 weight gear oil comes out it is a non-WC. If ATF comes out it is a WC. Also look a the front bearing retainer there is a difference between the WC and non-WC that is expained in the first link I posted. The ID tag is usually missing from the these transmissions whick makes ID a lot harder. The tag should be on a tail shaft bolt.

actually more times than not you'll find gear oil coming out of it regardless if it's WC or not. They haven't made dextron II for years so the manufacturer recommends you use 50w gear oil instead if you change it.

My 4 cyl Turbo Coupe (1983) had a t-5 with ATF in it. I doubt that was a WC.

People are too stuck on a "world class" t5.The fact is they break just as easy.I had a WC on my n/a that broke 3rd driving normal. My 85 trans has been in my car for close to 7 years with over 525 ft lbs thought it and still shifts great.I dont know one of my friends or in my clubs that hasnt broken a t5 at some point.
