Unhappy Performer 289 Intake Install?

I am confused when I look at the Edelbrock Performer 289 intake there only two water ports at the front one one each side and the gaskets has a water port at both ends . How does this work is there water ports at the back of the heads that doesn't get used when you install this manifold on stock heads and if so how does it effect the motor.
Link to what the gaskets look like .There is no water jacket port at the back of the manifold.

That's normal. I can't recall the reason, but the rear passage isn't used/needed

You sure your intake doesnt have water passages in the back i have a performer 289 and mine has them. But yes if it doesnt have the passages its not a big deal their not needed.

One of the members looked it up when I noticed it on my intake. Said ford designed the heads to flow the water from the rear to the front so there is no reason for the rear crossover. It just collects water there and heats it up.

The heads have ports at both ends because there was no left/right head. The rear port is not used.

Some factory manifolds, years later, had a rear crossover in the manifold, but it was mainly used as a connecting point for the heater.

ya, very odd. I've seen
performer rpm = no rear water ports
weiand 8124 = no rear water ports
edelbrock performer = no rear water ports
and last week I've done an edelbrock performer that actually had water ports in rear.
This one was the only one that wasn't bought new, so I guess edelbrock eventually gave up on water ports in back.

what we're all trying to say is: ignore the missing water ports in the rear.

important is: don't use the rubber or cork gaskets at front and back. use bead of RTV
when torqueing down the intake torque it over and over and over and over and over again until no bolt moves no more. due to its wedge shape it takes ages to seat
it usually takes me four or five full rounds

Same thing with the gaskets. They can be flipped and used on either side so they have holes for the ports on both ends.
