sound to me like the CV shuttle is sticking. You may need to re-do the overhaul.

Me too. This is more of a steering assist system and works by pressurization of the ram which, is controlled by the CV assy being displaced by at least 4lbs of force on the steering wheel.
good luck with efforts.

That's what I'm guessing now. I'll try the pump but I'm doubting that's it based on the posts. Not sure how I could have screwed it up. Rebuild was pretty easy to do. But jlg2002 may be on to something with the shuttle sticking. I did have to have cylinder cleaned up a little at machine shop the shuttle was very tight until I had cylinder honed a little.

Problem seems a little intermittent. When I first start up turns back and forth fine. Run it for awhile and starts to have problems at very slow speed turns. Seems to flair up after I back up and then try to make slow speed turns. Backing out driveway and parrallel parking. If still a problem after changing pump - I might have to pick one up from you.

Well got all back together took a little longer than expected. When doesn't it. Put new control valve and cycliner. Have a minor leak at one of the fittings. Should have put new hoses on. Will need to put new hoses and seats where leaking - lesson learned. But cars power steering much better.

I've been on the fence on what I was going to do with steering on my 66 project (R&P, Borgeson). Decided to go with original PS setup after this experience. Cheaper and now that I know what I'm doing should be an easier swap.

Want to give a shout out to Chocko. Called 3 times for advice and questions - very big help!! Thanks
