Default Replace 67 steering column and gear with 68+??

I need to have the steering box replaced on my early 67. I want to get rid of the harpoon of the one piece box and shaft. What years should I look for in a column to get the newer two piece shaft with the rag joint? Are they the same from late 67 to 70? Thanks.

Stick with 68. You'll need gearbox, column, and steering wheel. You'll need to put a 67 connector on the 68 turn signal wires to connect to your 67 dash wiring.

I was under the impression that the '68 column required '68 pedals as well to clear the boot on the collapsible portion of the column.

Yes, did this on my '67 but was also swapping to PDB with an auto. also. The '68> column is larger and clearance with the stock pedal would be tight or rub as the '68> pedal is bowed more.

I had my '67 gearbox (in good cond.) rebuilt and had a '68> short shaft installed from a '68/69 box to use the ragjoint. The '68> has a 1.25" pitman shaft and the '67< a 1" shaft, that's one reason I kept my '67 box so I didn't have to change more steering components.

Be sure to get the clamps to go along with the '68 column as they are different than '67 but bolt in the same holes. The TS wiring was easy, I spliced the wires into my '67 pigtail, wires were all the same colors, just different shades so everything matched up.

I *think* you could also use a '69 column but not sure if the clamps will fit on the '67 dash so you may still need '68 clamps. As mentioned, easiest swap is a '68 column.

The '70 column would be more work as the ign. cylinder is in the column instead of the dash.

A late '67 column would be the easiest swap, but you don't get the collapsible column that comes with the '68.
