Default c4 auto to manuel toploader help

i found a pony im in love with but the only problem is that it has automatic transmission.

it sounds like switching to a 4 speed top loader is going to be the easiest tranny swap from my research.

not counting the cost of the new transmission clutch and flywheel, how much money am i looking at?

also how much time and how difficult is this to do?

do they make a kit?

as far as linkage/cable/hydrolic goes i would like to go with what ever is cheapest. but if for a little more i can get something easier to install ill go with that.

ive swapped a tranny on a jeep wrangler a few times but that is as far as my knowledge goes.

i appreciate your help greatly.

o ya its a 1966 289 but will later have a 351w

You might want to swap in a Tremec T5-z instead. It is a 5-speed with overdrive to save gas (and your engine by running lower RPM on the hiway). The cost of a rebuilt T5 is probably lower than a rebuilt toploader too. Swap effort maybe about same as TL, if you have the correct parts, but probably easier with a complete kit.
It's very popular to do T5 swaps in early Mustangs. Goto the moderndriveline website for kits. Also search this site for many threads on the topic.

I've got a 65 with a manual I am looking to convert to an auto for my wife. I have a C4 already, but could use all the shifter/linkages/ etc. Would be willing to take them off your hands if you don't need them...
