Do water pumps chirp when going out?
Been have erratic temperature fluctuations at idle on the inline 6 lately. I was in the garage running the car and checking the flow and temp of the radiator. Temp eventually went up on the gauge but looks like the thermostat opened and the temp dropped. However, I heard a chirping-like noise that sounded like it was in the area of the water pump. Is this a sign of a failing water pump or belt or what? Thanx in advance for any ideas...
If your belt is tight, then you probably have a bearing going out on the pump. Make sure you have anti-freeze in the rad so that the pump gets some lubrication. Usually, the pump will start leaking before it goes completely out.

OK....consider an aluminum water pump. Jeff Gordon likes his.
