Default water pump recommendations

Can anyone recommend me a nice replacement water pump? I just need one to be able to get the car around to different shop for quotes...the one I had on there leaked coolant so I took it off. Also, is there a hardware kit that comes along with these? the bolts are basically shot. Thanks!

Any new water pump you get from a chain store should work just fine. The only hardware kit I'm aware of is the ARP kit, which is a bit pricey.

You can probably get a hardware kit from most Mustang parts houses. I know the HELP section has the bolts for 80s-90s vehicles.

I just bought a summit brand chrome aluminum for 111. Little pricey but a little more bling.

Unfortunately my experience tells me this is not true. I had a brand new pump from Autozone, and still fought overheating problems for a year. I changed the radiator, hoses, fans, thermostats, timing, shrouds.... never could find the problem. Turned out the water pump had an impeller that was waaaaay too small to move enough water. I don't know if I got one with an incorrect impeller, or if it was just a crappy design. So I would say Most water pumps you get from a chain store would work just fine. Just be sure to remove the back plate an check the impeller size. Look for something at least as big as a tennis ball.

Interesting. Part of the reason I despise Autozone; they have no consistency in what goes in their boxes, and most of the time it's cheap crap. I was under the impression they were using Airtex pumps (which are good pumps), but apparently that's incorrect.

If you're just wanting something to beat around town until you get the good stuff then roll the dice at AutoStone & get a cheapy that will or (probably) will not work.

But if it is one you are wanting to actually work as advertised then I'd get it from CJ's and get the bolt kit from them while you're at it. They'll have the right one and they're not stupid money.
