Default Gauge woes

I went for a good long drive Saturday and everything went smoothly except my temperature gauge was reading very high. I stopped to check it out and the thermometer on the radiator cap (Mr. Gasket) was only showing 200*, no hissing, no boilover ... So I must have the wrong sending unit. What should the resistance be at say 85* and also at 200*?

Also, I thought I was almost out of gas. I stopped to fill it up (a chore in itself) and after 5 gallons it was to the bottom of the filler neck. The gauge read right at half a tank. So that sending unit must be the wrong one too. So again, what should the resistance be at empty and also at full?

Any help appreciated!

what makes you think the sending units are bad?

These gauges never worked right? If they did when did they last work right?

hi;

if your water sending unit is not orig and it has always done this most likely it is incorrect, you are best off buying a used orig.

the tank sender float might just need adjisting it is ariund 10 ohms full and 90 empty.

Thanks barnett468, that's what I was looking for on the fuel gauge.

Anyone know what the specs are for the temp sender?

10 ohms in sender = cold on gauge

25 ohms = middle of gauge

80 = hot on gauge

try a standard motor part TS 58 and TS24 if yours is bad.
