Default C code question 68 coupe...

Hey guys, been awhile since I've posted here, but I never stopped browsing lol... So, I was looking on a few different sites to find citable proof of what engines were offered in a 1968 Mustang. (I already know the answer, but someone posted on Facebook about how the 351 was their favorite engine option in a '68 Mustang.) They were very cocky about their "vast knowledge of all things Mustang related" so, naturally, I had a desire to prove them wrong... In my quest, I read, as I had learned a few years back, that there were some changes made mid-'68 and there are differences between early and late 1968 cars such as the different quarter panel marker reflectors (early were flush-mounted & late year were surface-mounted with a chrome bezel), dash padding & A-pillar padding, etc. I also read that the 289 2v C-code engine was available only in the early '68 cars since it was replaced by the 302 2v F-code engine mid year. My question is; Is this correct? If so, my car doesn't make sense because it is a late '68 car judging by the late style quarter-panel reflectors, the pad on the dash above the glovebox, and the pads on the A-pillars. However, it originally came with a 289 2v and is a C-code car. According to what I've read, there were no late year C-code cars & there were no early year cars with the pads and raised, chrome-bezel reflectors on the quarters... Is mine a fluke? Or am I missing something? Sorry for the long post & the unimportant question, but it'll drive me crazy if I can't find the explanation... Boredom is a terrible thing lol. Thanks for reading, everyone, and for all the help in the past... BTW, I'll put up some recent pics of the car asap...

I had 2 1968 coupes in the late 70's early 80's. One was built in Nov. 68. It had the C code 289 and the instrument panel padding and the flush side marker lights. The 2nd one best I remember was built in March? of 69. It had the J code 302 4V and it had the early flush mount reflectors. I don't remember for sure about the padding but I kinda think it did have it.
I have read and seen in magazines quite a few times that some cars built late in the model year had some early style parts and vice versa. It just depended on when the parts were used up at the factory. I'm not sure if there was an exact change over date but the changes were probably running changes. So most anything is possible.
When was your car built?
There WAS NO 351 offered in 68. They were first offered in 69.
