Default Shelby rear brakes

Read an article in a recent issue Mustang Monthly where Jason White Restoration put the 3" wide brakes used in the rear of 1966 Shelby mustangs on a regular 1966 mustang. The article claimed they came from the rear of a fairlane station wagon and were readily available from suppliers such as NPD and Scott Drake. I can find only 2 1/2" wide brakes for the rear of a 1966 fairlane station wagon. The specs I find for a 1966 Shelby specify 2 1/2" wide rear brakes. I find no fairlane parts for sale by NPD and no brake drums for sale by Scott Drake. The only 3" rear drum brakes I find specified on a Shelby mustang from that time period are on a 1970 model. Can someone shed some light on this?
