Default 71 Ford - Not/Hard Starting

Hello All -

I recently inherited a 1971 Ford Mustang Convertible with the 250 cu in. inline 6 that I'm trying to get up and running again. Upon delivery, it took the seller about 30 times of cranking the key and some fiddling under the hood before it started and ran (poorly) enough to unload it, and I haven't been able to start it since. The fuel pump and inline filter seem to be working just fine, and I've been feeding fresh gas into it. It's also got new spark plugs, ignition coil, and the battery is just fine. The car had been sitting in a barn, undriven, for about a decade before I got it. Any direction on what I should try next would be greatly appreciated.

Fresh gas and old gas don't mix. They separate like salad dressing with the old gas on top. Best to drain the tank and get all the old out - if it is not your intention to replace the tank. I have had really good luck with the PerTronix electronic ignition. That would be my number one suggestion beyond good fuel.

The accelerator pump in the carburetor responsible for transition between cruise and rapid acceleration is likley non functional. The accel pump is also responsible for raw gas delivery into the intake during startup.
Might as well rebuild the rest of the carb as well.
