Although it has been done, trying to put a big block engine in a classic requires several modifications. Try sticking with a small block 289, 302 or 351. There are a butt load of mods you can add to these engines to give you all the HP you will ever want for a street car. Body Kits? Forget it, unless you want to make an eleanor out of it. Concentrate on getting the current body and sub frame in good condition. Consider sub frame connectors, updating the brake system, newer and updated seat belts, etc. If you want rear disk brakes as well, try finding a 1977-80 Lincoln Versailles in a junk yard and rob the rear from it. We have a butt load of information posted in the FAQ section on top. Visit those sites to get a better understanding of what you want to do.

Thanks the body kits that i was asking about were like a complete kit of all the pieces that you can buy as a whole bunch rather than buying in pieces. Thanks

Default RE: Need AllAround Beging Help

Thanks guys but here are a few more
1. I think i have picked out the year which will be a 68. Also i think i have the engine too, The 392 crate engine from jegs any edvice on that one. I am going with the 750 holley carb Becuase that is what they used when they did there dyno. What Barrel should i get. I chose that one Becuase it will require work to fit but not as much as the 427 or 428. and it will give me all the HP and torque i want. So any thoughts on that would also be appreciated

2. What are some good headers for the 392 that i just stated. headers and exhaust I am not really going to drive it alot so i dont mind about mufflers perferably no mufflers thanks

3. What type of transmission do i need to handle the 392. I dont know much about transmissions so i havent go a clue thanks.

Thanks and any and ALL help is appreciated very much. Like I said earlier just trying to get a all my "ducks in a row" so when i start i know what i want. Thanks

TKO600 would be my choice for the 392ci Windsor. I agree with you if you have that kinda money.

Going to an FE engine, 352,390,410,427,428 will be more expensive, for the 427 especially, and 428's arent cheap either. You probably wont find them in crate form as well.

The 392 is based on a 351W block with a stroker crank, so you need a flywheel that is balanced to the crank and rods, Jegs should have info on that. Other than that, 351W pieces like headers, mounts and the like should work, unless its built on a tall deck block. If that is the case, try Dougs Headers. They custom build them.

I agree, dont bother with a body kit. Its not a Honda or something like that.

Sounds like one of those "I just soiled my armor" type vehicles... Always have a change of underwear in the car.
