Exhaust questions
I have a 67 Covertible w/ stock C Code Engine, stock sinlge exhaust. Exhaust needs to be repired/replaced, so thinking of upgrading to duals. If I were to go with headers, I have a bunch of questions:
1) If I modify the motor later (Better heads, 4 barrel carb/manifold, cam), would I need to change the headers again? I only want to do this once..
2) Which headers are recommended to keep ground clearance high? (Tri Y's vs. shortys etc)
3) Would I be able to do headers and Flowmasters or Maganaflows and keep it relatively quiet (since its a convertible)? It is a stock looking car and I don't want it to be too loud, especially because it is a soft top...if those would be too loud, what is recommended? Maybe I'm expecting too much to try and keep it fairly quiet but with a nice rumble..
Thanks!

hmm, Im trying to think, my 66 coupe is loud as heck, with dual flowmasters. I also have 2.25 pipes, but no headers. You may just want to go with the stock dual exhuast muflers they put on the stangs back then. My 67 convertible have them on it, and it sounds good, but not too loud.
like 6mustang6 said, you may want to use stock replacement mufflers because flowmasters and magnaflows will probably be louder than you want
i have magnaflows and really like them, but it doesn't sound like you want that much sound

1) No, you wouldn't need to change the headers again.
2) Go with the tried and true Tri-Ys. They're made for these little cars. Plenty of ground clearance too. Stay away from the shorties. Tests show they have absolutely no benefit over the factory logs.
3) Go with Dynomax Super Turbos. Nice and low-volume at idle, and still not the violent bark of Flowmasters even at full throttle. I think you'll be very pleased with them.
And while you're having the duals installed, go ahead and spring for an X-pipe. You've got to have some kind of cross over, and the Xs are a bit smoother-sounding (read: quieter) at all RPMs.
