When you get the VIN, you definitely need to run a carfax on it. Use extreme caution when buying on Ebay, people lie and scam others alot, but you can find a gem in the rough sometimes.

I'm gonna move this over to the classic section, they can help you locate the VIN and give you some buying tips.
Carfax is only good for '82 and newer. Something like that.

i emailed him and this is his response:
its not a scam that the vin # that the dmv assigned to it its on the pink slip i will take a picture of that if u would like because the vim # is extremely hard to read on this car

i emailed him back
that particular vin is registered to a 2001 HINO FE2620, which is a huge delivery truck that looks like this http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/f...05C06F81AAE566
Why would the dmv issue you a vin that:
a)is already registered for another vehicle?
b)is for a vehicle that wasn't made in this country and is not even close to the original vin?

oh i also just sent a message to the top bidder on that mustang telling him about the vin just to keep him notified. i'm so going to heaven now

It does sound pretty fishy if you ask me. But I don't know what these guys hope to accomplish by lying. I wouldn't pay a dime until I saw the car. So if I showed up, and it didn't exist. Then what? How is he scamming me?
