Default first time buyer

hello, I am trying to purchase a '67 mustang and I am bidding on one at ebay #4602406718 , the guy does all this work and when I asked for the VIN he doesn't know where to look for it but gives me this #: JHBFE2JS011S10303. Can anyone decipher this number? He said it's off the pink slip, but after hearing about Boyd going down and after he said the dash has been replaced I am getting suspicious. Anyway tomorrow I'll look at it but being 15 I am not really sure what I am getting into, just kind of sure.

When you get the VIN, you definitely need to run a carfax on it. Use extreme caution when buying on Ebay, people lie and scam others alot, but you can find a gem in the rough sometimes.

I'm gonna move this over to the classic section, they can help you locate the VIN and give you some buying tips.

That doesn't look ANYTHING like my 66 VIN number....not that that means anything. There's no VIN required on the registration or Title in CA ? The VIN can be located on the door tag or in the corner of the dash....it's easier to see from the outside of the car. I'd be skeptical as hell of buying a car from a guy over the net who can't locate a VIN. Anyone who's been around these cars for a few weeks knows how to find the VIN numbers....so that would make me question is description.

Here is a link to the car:

1967 Mustang

It looks decent, but that VIN is not for that car. The VIN should start with a "7"

http://mustangdecoder.com/cgi-bin/decoder.pl

Error: Blank or Invalid Warranty Number
Unable to determine the year of the Mustang.

The year of the Mustang must be determined in order to decode it. Check the Warranty Number or VIN to ensure it is correct. The first digit of the Warranty Number should be the same as the last digit of the year.

Example: 9F02H197507 = 1969 Mustang

Please try again
Does he have any door tag numbers?

very cool looking car none the less....but be cautious....

EDIT: i guess i just blindly assumed C4's were 4 speeds for some reason.

Why not 3-speed auto? I mean C4 and C6 transmissions are 3-speed automatic and these are std Mustand transmissions.

yes, c4 and c6 trannys are indeed 3 speeds. I would use extreme caustion when bidding on this one buddy. First off the description is short in detail, and all he says it has is a 289 hipo (yeah right) tell him to look for the vin that is satmped on the driver side apron, 67 do not have the vin in the dash, 68 started that, but still have him check the vin and tell him it should only be 11 numbers and letters long. It should show at least

7F01T(C)(A)(K)(S)234566
THE 7 REPRESENTS THE YEAR

THE F IS DEARBORN ASSEMBLY PLANT, BUT IT COULD BE A T AS WELL

THE 01 IS BODY STYLE WHICH SHOULD BE AN 01 FOR WHAT HES SHOWING

THE T MEANS THE ENGINE WHICH GOES IN THE ORDER SHOWN ABOVE: T= I6 C=289 2V
A=289 4V K=289 HIGH PERFORMANCE S=390 4V, IT SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ON OF THESE IN THERE, BE CAUTIOUS IF HE SAY T CODE BECAUSE THAT CAR USED TO HAVE A I6 IF HE DOES

AND THE LAST 6 NUMBERS ARE JUST PRODUCTION NUMBERS WHICH COULD BE ANYTHING REALLY

Good catch GTA289 on the VIN not being on the dash.... I screwed the pooch on that one.
I think everyone wants you to get a good deal and get what you want, we certainly don't mean to be negative....it's just the nature of the Internet to be skeptical of people when somethings don't add up.
