yes, the 289 and 302 are very similar however the block is a little different as I think 6mustang6 and I found out a little while ago with a similar question. A guy posted a pic of an engine that resembled my 351W so it had to be a 302, since it looked different from 6's 289. The fuel pump is one difference, i cant really describe it from these odd looking ford diagrams though. The 289's closest...relative, if I may, would probably be the 260, somewhat big ci difference but they have the same block and parts to an extent.

yeah if its a 67, than the original motor should either be a 289 2v a 289 4v a 289 hipo or a 390 4v. The 302 did not come out until mid 68

Your best bet is still to post a pic for us to see.

Either that, or crawl under and remove your starter motor. The engine block will be stamped with the displacement, the month of its production, and the intended car line. But again ; you've got to remove the starter to see this stamping.

A 390 will have five valve cover bolts and four bolts holding on the water pump. The number "352" you mentioned is commonly found on the driver's side front of 390's. A picture would help.

yes, and removing the starter requires a ratchet, wrench, gloves to avoid destroying your hands in the small space, and eyewear so that the dirt and crap up in there doesnt fall in your eyes as you bang the wrench around in there. lol, not necessarily hard, but a pic is a million times easier

Yeah, It could be a 352. Have anyone thought of that? I have one of those in my truck, and if he has a 352 with a car cam, I can bet, that engine will pin you in the seat.

Could be, could be a 428 also as most FE motors have "352" cast into them regardless of displacement.
