not original engine
"FE" is the engine family designation. Some say it stands for "Ford Edsel" or "Ford Engine" I don't know if anyone knows for sure. They came in displacements of: 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427 and 428. If you seek information on the motor, you might want to check out the Ford FE forum: http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/

Yep, nobody really knows what FE stands for. However, I seriously doubt it stands for Ford Edsel. Just my thought, and nothing concrete to base that thought on. It doesn't really matter though, it is still a big block that obviously didn't come originally with that car if the data code indicates it was a small block from the factory.

it stands for fu@#kin enourmous lol
I agree. What I meant to type was Ford/Edsel as the motor was originally designed for those two car lines. A 390 swap is not common or easy. It takes special GT type heads and GT type manifolds. Thats why I asked if the VIN was from the door data plate of the actual registration. It could be that the door was replaced somewhere along the line with one from a small block car.
