cracked bell housing
hey wusup everyone just recently i looked under my car about to change my tranny oil u know the usual maintenance, as i was looking under my car i saw my bell housing was cracked. Now a lil history before this happen or couldva been the cause, a year ago my 69 was hit in the rear which fortanetly my car wasnt concidered salvage or even put on record. I took out my tranny inspecting the fly wheel, torque converter, everthing is fine i barely bought the tranny alomost the same year of the crash maybe i didnt check the bell housing right at the time (it was prolly a lil crack then started to grow) i also had to change my tranny mount which i think was the cause i did also check the motor mounts which are fine.
just recently i went to a transmission expert, he said that classic mustangs are nortorious for our engines lifting at high speeds or revs and making the bell housing hit the undercarriage of the car so he said as for the solution he said to get a strong thick chain and bolt it to the bottom motor mount to the the block? WTF this is the first time im hearing this, ive never seen this on a mustang let alone i think its another way to be cheap. but anyways anyone herd or something similar to this?? anyways i bought a slightly used bell housing with no cracks. maybe it was cracked when i first bought the tranny eah as long as its fixed.
