update: 2/3/06
about a month ago i bought a 302, c4 and driveshaft from a 1984 pickup, thinking i'd never find a 289 around here. low and behold, a guy my dad works with had a 1966 289 sitting in his garage. he said he rebuilt the engine 15 years ago for a friend, but the friend got into drugs and jail, yadda yadda, and he has no use for it being a chevy guy. i also picked up upper and lower intake manifolds, fuel rails, throttle body and elbow from a 1990 mustang gt for $35 off ebay. great start for my fuel injection project.

You're not thinking about firing this engine without freshening it are you ? 15 years is a long time to sit and I would strongly recommend that you replace the rings ( probably collpased or stuck ) and al least check the valve springs. Remember that if this engine had pushrods in place and tightened , some of these valve springs have been under tremendous load for a very long time. Just my humble opinion, Dean
