Default Adding A/C

Where is the best place to get a complete A/C kit? Also which kit do you think is the best bang for the buck?

I installed a kit from Classic Auto Air when I put my car back together after it's paint and body work. Simple eough to install (cutting the holes in the radiator support isn't fun though) and I like the classic look it has. However, I have yet to charge the system (waiting for the warmer weather) so I can't speek for its operation or efficiency yet. Ony negative thus far - they use a sticky goopy tar-like caulk around the underdash unit where the lines come in. Looks tacky and tends to come off easily. I also went with the new type refridgerant. Blower is quiet, three speeds and efficeint. The compressor mounting bracket is well made and simple enough to install, but takes a little shimming and patience to get everything lined up correctly. Like the look of the modern aluminum compressor too - goes with my engine compartment.

This is the Vintage Kit. All you ahve under the dash is 3 or 4 small vents. Nothing big and bulky under dash unit and it works great with a console. And it use your factory heater controls. $975.00

Ah, both you guys are nuts. Rob an original unit from an old Mustang, then never have enough cool during the summer. Seriously, the old unit in mine keeps me from sweating my butt off, but not near as efficient as either of the aformentioned units. After recharging with the 134 , it is now even more inefficient than when it had the R-12 in it.

Yes, Soaring 134 is less efficient than the old freon. I made my choice for environmental reasons and the fact that (way down the road) R-12 will disappear from the market (they no longer produce it). But either/or - beats sweating your butt off if you live in a warm climate like I do. Give me air or give me hot, sticky uncomfortable cruising, lol.
