Here's the next step to complete obviously before and after the leaves and such are oak as well as lots of acorns a family of squirrels had made the cowl home up the heater box into the cowl if you can believe it.

New high hat ready to be welded in just cleaning up some of the surface rust from under and behind the dash it is a LOT easier with the cowl out of the way.

Just a little update on the weekend progress

Not to bad for a beginner.

Trust my welding skills until this project were nil.

Work to do under the dash first but all trimmed and ready to go.

Your welding skills will improve the more practice you have. You are doing a good job. Nice pictures of the progress. Keep us up to date as you progress further.

Thanks Soaring I can tell an improvement already, still experimenting with speed and heat settings. I'd also like to ask a question in the following picture looking through the space that would be the ash tray in the firewall and insulation pad there is a set of double holes wouldn't these be for A/C hoses. When I bought this car it was in a lot of pieces including the engine, going through all the stuff I thought I had found an A/C compressor but there isn't A/C on the fender tag just the RM for the remote mirror. Could this car have had A/C dealer installed?

If you are talking about those two little holes in the firewall that are right next to each other, that would be where your heater hoses enter the interior. The air con hoses will enter not too far to the left of your brake master cylinder. Take a look here at the engine side of the firewall on my 65. The first is the air con inlet holes, and the second is the heater hose inlet holes.

There by the master cylinder is what I am looking for drivers side of firewall. I know where the heater hoses went from dismantling my 65 but on it, the firewall by the brake did not have those other two holes punched out. I'm thinking this car did have A/C but I'm betting it was installed at the dealer.
