You could just move the wires on the cap instead of pulling the distributor out. I drop them in and hook the wires up from TDC when I build engines.

Pull #1 plug out. Stuff a rag in the hole. Turn the engine over until the rag pops out. That is TDC. If the #1 wire points to one o'clock, then you are set. If it points to 7 o'clock, you are 180 out.

You are making sure your #1 clyinder is up? The distributor will point at the #6 cylinder or 180 out every other time the balancer is at tdc

Yes but make sure the 1piston is the one up. When the damper shows tdc it could be the 1 or the 6 cylinder that is on its firing stroke. If your 6 piston is up just install the distributor so the rotor points at the 6 wire instead of the one wire

It depends on which valves are open since both 1 and 6 will be at TDC at the same time. You want #1 to have both valves CLOSED, that is TDC on compression stroke.

I guess you arent reading this anyway. I will stop coming in this thread. 25+ years experience must not count for much.. Have fun with it Tyler..

Okay now the carb is backfiring. Just a second ago a flame shot through the carb[]
I think a little too much gas got into the carb when i was playing with the linkages.
