Default 1969 Master Cylinder

I have a 1969 428 SCJ that has been in storage for 20 years. I want to rebuild the master cylinder, however, it seems that I need to remove the power booster and master cylinder assembly as one unit do to the lack of room. I have removed (1) screw from under the hood and (4) nuts from under the dash and it still seems to be held by something. What am I missing? Thanks to anyone who can help me.

There is a clevis pin that holds the push rod that goes into the center of the master cylinder from the pedal. This is accessed from under the dashboard. It will be retained in place by a cotter key or something similar. You have to pull this pin out in order to remove the master cylinder from the car. If you didn't see it, perhaps the rubber boot is blocking your view - you can push it toward the engine compartment to expose where the push rod is fastened to the pedal.

The only difference with a power brake car is that the master cylinder is bolted to the power brake unit, not the firewall. The whole assembly comes out as a unit. You still have to pull the clevis pin, even on a power brake equipped car.
Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that I did remove the clevis pin and the lever. Do you know how many screws/bolts I have to remove under the hood and under the dash?

Thanks

It could still be held in place with paint and undercoating stuff on the firewall. Try prying with a flat screw driver around the perimiter.

Soaring, Thanks for your help! It turned out that a bracket was covering an additional nut. I hadn't realized that it was actually double nutted.

Thanks Again!
