Default Faded Top - Questions about Dye

My convertible top (black) has always appeared more gray then black ever since I purchased it. In comparison to the new mustangs it is very noticeable. I was looking into he possibility of using a black dye on the top to restore some of it's color and I came across the following product:

http://www.autogeek.net/convertible-top-dye.html

I am wondering if anyone out there has experience with this product or has tried to dye their top. Does it work well? Is this something to be done by a novice? What are the pitfalls? Is there a better brand or solution?

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

if you wanted spray on vinyl paint that acts as dye and soaks into fabric and dashboards etc. Its Dupli-color can be bought at checkers and autozone.

I work at a dealership and had mine professionally done by a company that dyes interiors (they dye stains in our used cars) I always thought mine was gray also but even after getting it dyed black it still lokks gray. If your car is black I think it is a losing battle because it will never be that black. I think the Cobras came with a cloth top that is actually black that is on my list to do further down the road
