Default lowering springs

Hey, I am new to Mustangs, and Ford...I am lookin to lower my 96 GT convertible, just wanna make sure that the springs are all universal and will fit convertibles, or do I have to get them specific for a convertible. Was also wondering if the springs for a 99-04 would fit my 96. Right now I am looking at either Roush, or Tein. Any Help would be good. Thanks.

im pretty sure that there are convertible specific springs because the convertibles are a little heavier than coupes.

It makes a huge difference in ride height. I bought springs for a coupe and put them on my convertible. The car dropped over 2 inches. It was undrivable on the road. Bought the Ford Motorsport (Eibach) springs from Summit Racing for the convertible worked out to about a 1.75 drop and worked very well. Lost money selling the first set of springs but learned this lesson, it makes a difference.

Some companies make convertible specific springs, some don't. Aside from the issues noted in the above posts, unless you're planning to autocross or drag your car a lot I'm not sure it really matters. I guess I got lucky with my Sportlines; they're not body specific and I've had no ride height or handling issues with them. Bottom line, if the springs are advertised as being for a coupe or convertible only, there's a reason for it.
