Top pads
I just picked up a 89 lx vert that has a new top on it. The person who put the top on did not replace the pads. The pads are tearing where one of the pivot points are. Is there any way to replace the pads with the top on, or can I put something between the pad and the frame to stop this from happening?

I had to have my 1990 LX Convertible top replaced cause the back window was broken, and the top needed replacing. Are you talking about the pads between the top and the folding mechanical top parts? If so I am sure they should have been replaced with the top. Mine was in good shape so the shop used them again.
You might be able to unlatch the top and take the tightness off of the frame, and work something in there to protect the top. I am not sure what would work unless some heavy duty cloth. You might be able to secure it with black RTV to keep it in place when the frame moves over that spot. . Good luck!

on my 94, the pads are stapled in, between the top and the frame. the top is also stapled all the way across the top of each frame rail. not sure how easy it would be to get something between the top and the frame without taking out all of the staples holding the top in.

i have a auto upholstery shop, its a lot of work to replace them. the top would need to come off to allow you to staple them in place.you may be able get by for a while by useing contact cement and glueing some black canvas from the rear bow to the next bow forward over the aera where it is wearing.

What about the fuzzy side of some wide velcro? Thats what the top shop did on my 07 on the 4th bow at the base. Something was causing the top to pull and get cut there and they used the soft fuzzy side of industrial strength velcro to cover the area.
