vert top has a small slice
#2
Stang,
In my vert installation shop, the repair goes like this: Get a tube of "Amazing Goop" by Eclectic Products, Inc. This company sells a cross between super glue and silicone sealant. It dries faster and clear. I like the one(they sell 3 or 4 different kinds, ie Automotive, Household, etc.) called "Plumbing" Goop.
Get a small piece(1 1/2" square) of vinyl or canvas type material. Apply the Goop onto the vinyl or canvas and apply it to the backside(underside or toward the interior) of the car. Walk away from it for 3 to 5 minutes. Now go back to the patch and hold a small board over the patch from the inside of the car and press upward and outward while pressing down into the patch from the outside of the car.
This lets you work the convertible topping into the patch and smear the adhesive around into the topping while keeping something to press into. If you push into the topping without some kind of backing, you won' get as good of a smear because the topping will flex too much.
Afterward, I dribble some into the actual tear/rip on the top side, but just enough to fill in the void and hopefully stop it from tearing too much in the future.
The idea is to stabilize the rip from the backside and then fill the topside without making a unsightly "bandaide" type patch to be seen on the outside.
