Vinyl top cracks

Vinyl top cracks
My '08 Mustang has a black vinyl top, I have cracks in the welting above the windows. I am in Ohio, but this car has been stored in the winter, has NEVER seen snow. I am still under warranty till March '11, so hopefully I will not have any difficulty getting it replaced?... Anyone out there know if there is a cloth top available?. My winter car is a '02 Volkswagen that has seen 8 northern Ohio winters and has a pristine cloth top. (it also has always sat outside). My husbands '69 Camaro is in the garage. We are a house divided...

I just can't believe you will let the enemy in your house!
I have been talking recently to some late model Mustang 'vert owners. When most owners think they have a realistic warranty claim for a new top, Ford frequently disappoints and tells them that their problem is "normal wear and tear." I hope your case will be different. It might be a good idea to get started now with your claim.
The '05 to current Stang verts all came standard with a sailcloth vinyl convertible top cover. The exception to this is that the Cobra and GT500 came with a black cloth top.
If you are wanting to install a cloth top, just have the shop installing it order the top in cloth instead of vinyl. I have no idea if the dealer will be willing to do it or not.

Great news! The rep from Ford looked at the top, and the rear windiw defroster is also not working right, so they have decided they will replace the entire top / window!. I was a bit nervous waiting, but they did the right thing. How difficult is it to live in the Cleveland area and have a leaky convertible roof?. Thanks guys. And as a footnote, my Chevy husband reminded me that the other convertibles I have owned (all GM) have never had cracked roof at 23,000 miles...
