1998 Red Mustang?
Hey, guys and gals. I just wanted your help/opinion. I bought my 1998 Mustang used a few months ago. It's red... I hate Red. It's too over-played.
Not, since I've bought it I've washed it a few times, but I've never waxed it. But even when I bought it the paint was kinda dull. I was wondering, would a good wax bring that out? I tried to wax it once, but... I dunno, it just wasn't working. I got Turtle Wax, and I guess I didn't really understand the instructions well enough? I didn't know how much wax to use, and when to wait to whipe it off... or anything like that. [I'm asking for a Guide... with better instructions I guess =o]
Another thing, I live in Miami, how much is a good paint job about?
I was thinking of painting it in Gunmetal Gray... Gunmetal Gray is sooo bada**! -.-

Congrats on the car. I would start out with washing the car then clay barring it. Then you would probably want to polish it and then put on some glaze and then top it with some carnuaba wax. This is just an idea. Check out Justin's site www.obsessivedetail.com and check out his products. Justin's got everything you need and will give you all the answers you could need. I would definately look into getting a PorterCable 7424 if you want to get serious about getting your car looking good. Red can look really really wet. Here's a pic I did with the products Justin sells. Its red too.

But, the only thing I worry about is my paint is what? 9 years old... it wouldn't look that good, would it?
And, also, this stuff is pretty expensive. I want my car to look good, but not turn heads. I just don't want it to look so dull.
you can get it looking pretty close
you just have to start it off with a wash and clay to get it down to the bare clear coat, then the buffer and the products will do the rest of the work
with the PC and some time your car can look much much better than you ever expected

Like SVTBill said, wash it and clay it. This will help the paint feel slick agian. You could try the Meguiars Deep Crystal system. Its not the best but you can do it by hand. I would probably substitute the last step with some actually good canuaba wax. If its over the counter you want then get the Deep Crystal system and substitute the last step with some Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech yellow wax.. You can get that at Autozone. But agian, i highly recommend using some great products - Justin's products. If you have a carquest near you, you could look for some DuraGloss products. DuraGloss makes some great products. Be sure to get some microfiber cloths. These will be better for your paint than anything else.
