There's a big difference....hard core cleaning just involves some degreaser, rinsing and then some CD-2 Engine Detailer to let the engine bay shine. But if you want aluminum parts to shine like they are nearly chrome, then that is A LOT more work and usually involves pulling the part out and spending HOURS on it on a bench with a rotary polisher and the proper buffs and compounds. The first step is usually a Siscal (I think that is the spelling) buff with an orange cutting compound (tripoli)to dig in, then a Spiral buff again with the orange to smooth it out some, then another Spiral buff with white compound, and finally a loose weave buff with either the white or a rouge compound for the final shine. Its a lot of work and a very dirty process, so I can't imagine you would want to try it with the parts on the car.
If you really want to read more about this you should checkout Eastwoods website, they have a pretty good forum there that is all about polishing.
This is a "Quick" hard core cleaning. I used degreaser and a toothbrush, rinsed, then used armor all (CD-2 would be better) on the plastics and rubbers.
