post a picture of what your paint looks like now. that way the people on here can tell if its just a little minor oxidation or if its too far gone to save...

P.S. anyone know if there is a spell check feature on the forums?

if the clear coat is gone on the car no sense in buffing it!! Wont do any good but take the base off then youll start to see sealer.....

Wax eats Clear Coat anyways, I dont know why people wax their cars so often when it doesnt need it.....

Anything with Silicone is EVIL for a paint job!!!!!!

Once you have oxidation (sun spots) on a car you gotta repaint..... And its better to strip it down to metal cause most people lay wax on so thick to oxidation thinking its going to help so that wax is in the base/sealer.... When you go to paint it and your not careful itll Fish Eye like crazy!!!!! And that makes for a bigger mess....

wax isnt gonna hurt the paint it will protect it i detailed a car that was not waxed for 5 years and it wa oxidised bad and it had been waxed it would not have been oxidised nearly as bad

most of the waxes today are meant for application on clear coats. the clear coat on his car has probably pretty much been oxidized away and its down to just the base paint. therefore he will be putting wax on just a base coat of paint and its not going to bond right. if the car still has a good layer of clear on it, then wax would probably help it somewhat, but i highly doubt that it does. the only thing that i could really think of trying is using a polishing compound and seeing if that makes it any better. its definatley not going to look like showroom paint again, but it might help you out some. you might be better off to just completely sand it down to bare metal and prep it a little and then take it somewhere like maaco and have them put a cheap paint job on it. that is probably the best way to get it looking decent.

yeah, no way would i use maaco, but he says he doesnt want to spend much money. and i dont think there is much left for him to do other than having it repainted. if he just wants something that looks better than oxidized paint then thats prob his best and cheapest option.
