Question painting over paint

ok guy im thinking of puting a stripe on my car. i have painted wheels and wings and bumpers but never done a full stripe. i know how to center it and get it straight and stuff but what should i do to my paint so that the new stuff will really stick to it. should i sand it? if so wat grit sand paper? adhesion promoter, does it work? is it necessary. thanks guys

Free advice, take it if you want.

Take it to a pro. You can make a mess of your car in a hurry. They have the know how, the right tools and the facilities to do it right. I know money is tight these days but saving $200 by doing it yourself could cost you a full car paint job. Just my 2 cents.
