OK, so i talked to macco and it sounds like crap. After reading a large article on diy auto painting, and talking to macco, $1000 is a LOT of money just to get a quickie paint job. They said for $1000, they scuff the old paint and repaint with a single coat job. Sounds like crap to me. If my paint is chipping, it going to continue to do that and cause the macco paint to chip too. So if i paint it myself, take down to bare metal, use filler and primer the RIGHT way, its going to look good and last, right?? I know it is an incredible task to get into, and its goint to take about 100 man hours and about $600 in paint and supplies. Is it worth it? What are some oppinions? O, by the way thanks for the great info above!!

i have no regrets oin painting it myself.. just remember.. it doesnt have to be show quality. u dont have to take it to bare metal, just get the clear coat off. here is a link to my thread when i painted my car. there wont be 100 man hours into just sanding and prepping. only if there is bodywork that needs to be done, like dents, ect.

paint job

If your pant is shipping and peeling, then YES you do have to take it down to the bare metal. That means that the paint that is currently on the car isn't sealed. And anything you put on top of it is going to flake right off also.

I have a guy that I usually go to down the block. I asked him how much to repaint the hood and the front bumper (bad paint job before I got the car). He said it will be around $1000 to do do both. So far I found that to be about avg price for a good paint job (1-2k).
