steering wheel squeeks
When ever I start her up and back out the driveway or when i turn the wheel back and forth it makes an anoying squeeking noise.Anyone ever have this problem??by the way it's an 01 GT
Mine only does that if I have the wheel cranked as far as it goes to either side. I also get a low whine that's relative to my RPM's when I'm steering. I think that it may be my powersteering unit nearing the end of its life. But only having 50k miles on her, I don't think that's the case. I've ridden in other 99-04 mustangs and they didn't have the same whine. Is it possible that my PS unit is dying this young?
when i first got my car when the wheel was turned it squeeked and i took it to the dealer and they fixed it. i think it was a recall for a spring in the airbag or something. not positive though its silent now
ive always wondered what that whinning noice was, my powersteering fluid level is fine and i just couldnt figure it out. maybe after school today i should run it by ford (still under the good ol warranty) and see what they say. Ill let you know what i find out.

I had the same problem on my 96 GT for a few months. Would sound like a horrible squeaking when I turned the wheel left and right as I was parked. I read on another board some guy had the same problem and he had the ball joints in his suspension replaced and it solved the problem. As for me, as the weather got warmer up here in New Jersey, all of the sudden the noise stopped. Hope that helped. Id check out the ball joints if I were you. It could also be the control arm bushings possibly need to be greased up. Good luck with that.
Not sure if this is related, but my 98 Taurus drove me nuts for months with this squeaking noise while turning. I replaced the PS unit, removed the plastic thru-firewall unit on the steering wheel, and was about to replace the rack! Luckily I replaced my left tie outer tie rod end (I thought an unrelated problem) and it was curred intantly! Turns out it was completely shot and would make a squeaking noise....which I have never heard of before this.
I would NEVER have thought it would be related, but you might want to give it a look.
Good luck.
