Honestly,
I've done the swap from auto to manual, and manual to auto, and the manual to auto is easier... puting an auto where a manual was meant to go is not hard for the slightly trained... (I did tech school at a local school) Cooling lines are easy to run and coolers are cheap so are replacement radiators.... <100 bucks for rebuilt...
ARdoller is right... although lots of this stuff can be found on a donor car at a junk yard, there is a lot you will need... The clutch linkage and pedal are a pain in the ***... major work involved.... If you're going to do this seriously, it would be a good time to do some wiring checks in the dash as well as any other neccessary dash work cause you're gonna be close to pulling it anyways... Also, you can do the work for cheaper than ARdoller suggests, but I think he makes his point... You can get a tranny for around 500 bucks used, a clutch for way cheaper than that, and so on and so forth... also Hayes makes a great clutch quadrant and adjustable cable... that's what I used... 100 bucks and your adjuster, cable, quadrant and pivot are taken care of... and the cable mounts right in the firewall where the other came from... anyhow...
it's gonna suck... especially under jacks... believe me... i did it... but may be worth it depending on his driving...
