Any truth to this?
So, my brothers friend is looking to buy a '95 or '96 Eclipse. Since I bought my '06 Stang, a lot of little kiddies in my neighborhood are trying to figure out ways to make their cars faster. Now, someone told him that if he bought a 4 cylinder eclipse, that he can get it upto 650hp. I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to foreign cars but....doesnt that sound a little high? The person that told him this is the proud owner of a '96 Mighty Max pickup truck. He also claims his truck has well over 600hp. Im just wondering if this is possible at all and if so...how? Thanks a bunch.

Can a 4 cyl. hit 600+ HP.. Yes..
How much will it cost.. $10,000
How many kids do you know that have $10,000 to drop on a motor?
I think this weenie is alot of talk..
Probably one of those 'my dad can beat up your dad' type of kids..

Isn't this the beauty of a V8... power that's there withought modding the motor too much to the point where it becomes less durable or reliable... and as far as mpg... turbos are terrible for mpg's... my 306 gets well over 25mpg average and has been real good to me for 3 years now and we built it w/o an engine stand... it sat on a milk crate and was lifted by hand for most of the rebuild process... the power and reliablility for the gas milage i get for the grand total of around 600 bucks can't be beat...

getting 600HP is going to be VERY hard. He'll have to get a motor from a 1st gen DSM cause the 7 bolt in the 95-99 is worthless(atleast a couple thousand for the motor). Parts alone to get to 400HP will be about $8-$9K(thats w/o the motor).

I think 10k may be an understatement. I've know of people putting 30k in those cars and getting that power only with nitrous. They have to buy new blocks that will handle the power, usually from japan and build the entire engine up. Plus they have to run like 20psi of boost and an intercooler or whatever to get it.

Yes the kid could build a DSM that had 650 awhp but will he, no. Hell there is a dsm running high 7's but no normal person will ever get their DSM that low. If the kid thinks he will see 600 his dreams will be smashed. If by some chance he does get 600 hp dont worrk every time he starts it up something will break, so you will never have to worry about him beating you in a race.
