V6 or V8?
You will be happier with a V8. If you are concerned about fuel efficiency, focus on driving at fuel economy style and that will make a difference.
Roll to the stop lights to meet the green... Drive a consistent speed... no air-con... weight reduction mods sure add up too. Good luck on making the right decision! Remember that the "right" decision is what best serves YOU.

I'm 20 and have had my v6 since I graduated HS at 17. It wasn't my first car and surely wasn't the mustang I've been dreaming of since I was a little girl, but we all have to start someplace.
Unless you can TRULY afford the car payment, insurance, and mods, I would really suggest going with a newer v6 over the GT. If you're going 5.0 you may or may not have much of a car payment, but I'm going by the fact that you WERE looking for a newer stang when you started the post.
Sure, a v6 is the slowest of the stang lineup, but I find it to be a really good daily driver and I love mine just the same. I'm not into racing on the streets, but I am interested in learning about cars and I find this is a great car to do it on. I'd rather go wrong on a $10k v6 than on a nice GT, mach... etc. I've already learned a TON about this car and when I pay it off in a year and a half, I'm gonna have a lot of good stuff to take with me when I upgrade to my v8.
If you're 20, and a guy, I highly suggest going with the v6 just for insurance. I quoted through my company and the insurance is pretty high for the v8 (and I get a TON of discounts on my insurance.) It's totally up to you, but a v6 is a great mustang to start with and learn on. Plus, the 3.8 motor is really good for modding. It'll last ya a while.
Best of luck.

I for one would never own a V6 Mustang.. Why?
1) Its a mustang.. It should have a V8.. If you want a V6 then go get one of those new Tiberons by Hyndi (not sure of spelling and too lazy to look it up)
2) You will look like one of those kids who wants the fast car but can't afford it.. You know the type.. The ones who get the V6 and put on V8 style rims and dual exhaust..
3) Just because.. I just wont..
Get the V8 or don't get the car at all.. If the V8 isn't for you then look at another style car.. There some good looking, and quick 4 cyl. turbo cars out there.. Those are good on gas, look good and have decent power when you put your foot down..
Just my 2 cents.. But, what ever you do.. Don't be ONE OF THOSE KIDS!

but yeah, definatly get the GT. dont bother wasting ur money on a v6. i mean if you dont care about going fast or anything then the v6 is for you, but besides girls, i dont know too many people who dont buy the mustang for its speed.
IMO go for the 8cyl or ur gonna be dissapointed. of course, the disclaimer, to each his own, personal preference, but the mustang is a V8 car. the main mustang, the famous one, the real one, is the GT. the V6 is to boost sales and such. if ur gonna get a V6 CAR for whatever reason, don't get a stang. as insane as it is for many reasons as a GT, as a V6 the mustang it isn't really spectacular in its class. if u want a gas-sipping, fun to drive little car, get an RSX type S(that is if u can't/dont want to get a GT).
i drove an 05 sixer for a weekend and the mileage was not anything spectacular. not too great in fact. you won't be sacrificing much, if anything, if you get the GT.......plus the smile on ur face when you go WOT.
