Urgent...kinda: reverse lights
Hey, I'm new here and I just bought my first Mustang in January. Its just a 2001 V6 with little mileage. Anyhoo, my friend noticed that my reverse lights would go on even out of reverse every once and a while. It was only happening once and a while at first and I just blamed it on the new stereo that i just put in. Now they are on all the time and I've gotten pulled over and told to fix it or next time its a ticket. Luckily its been by a different cop each time. So a mechanic said there's a switch that can get stuck somewhere the transmission rubber beffer thing. I took it way apart and am to the point where I can see the ground. I was just wondering if anyone knew where that switch is and could tell me before I put the stick back on or before I get a ticket. Thanks. sorry about the long post

RE: Urgent...kinda: reverse lights
sounds like maybe a loose or shorted wire. check the side of the tranny. theres usually a small plug/clipped wire thats real small. check to see if it is the rear lights and if it is, could be corroded/loose/ or shorting. just a guess.

thanks
im startin to think the the "switch" is in the gear box or another metal enclosed box so i might not be able to fix it. But if the wire shorted, wouldn't the reverse lights never be on instead of always on. I really dont want to have to take it to a mechanic but i heard electrical problems can be expensive. Does any one think they know the ballpark price on getting this fixed would be around? If its to much im gonna roll w/o them till i get my CAI (K&N unless you all have better suggestions) and upgrade my speaker system and get my PA system hooked up.

if a wire is shorted, it could be that the coating is rubbed through and is bouncing around and touching metal at random times. and the switch is in the trans and the wire is "clipped" to the side of the tranny. pull it off and clean the terminals. on the wire end and the trans end. that cant do any harm and might be it. it was the prob on my 83 T5.

RE: Urgent...kinda: reverse lights
i called a mech and he said that it is a switch that plugs into the tranny. Do you know where the wire that you were talking about, beast, is cause i dont want to drop $100 bucks of my CAI fund into this
thanks
