New E10 Fuel, and your Mustang.

RE: New E10 Fuel, and your Mustang.
Ethanol (10%) is perfectly fine for use in all vehicles. South Dakota has had it ever since I remember. I run it exclusively in my '01 Super Duty (5.4L) and did the same in my '95 F-150 (5.0), '93 Explorer (4.0L), "90 Mustang (5.0) and '79 Cutlass (260 ci i think) no problems whatsoever. The only ethanol problem I have had is recently when I started blending E85 (85% ethanol/15 % unleaded gas) and 89 octane with 10% ethanol. Got up to about a 45% blend - MUCH MUCH more ethanol in there than the 10%. Little more oil usage (in correlation with a bad PCV filter) and a decrease in mileage was the problem. No choking or anything that has been described.
In summary - it is perfectly safe for use in your vehicles.

I don't know, I have been reading more on this. Most of what I read deals with E85 which is mostly ethanol but the properties of ethanol in general seem very corrosive.
Vehicles meant to run on E85 have stainless steel tanks, special fuel pumps that can run in conductive fluid, no rubber components, no exposed aluminum, stainless steel fuel lines with a plastic liner, acid neutralizing motor oil... All sorts things.
Doesn't sound all that great for cars not made to run with ethanol. 10% will corrode slower than an 85% mixture but still...
Are '86 fuel injector seals rubber? I don't like the idea of my gas tank and lines rusting from the inside either.

I'm not sure we will have a choice on this.
So a tune seems mandatory as well.

That's ridiculous though-- because then everyone with older cars would have to get tunes to run that gas, correct?
I don't think the gas I use has that yet, but I'm worried about it. I can't afford to be getting tunes and whatnot for my car.

this is totally bull**** from what I hear. 89 octane with 10% ethanol? that isnt even going to affect the gas prices. If it reduces your MPG then WTF!!! we need to buy more gas, which means we are using more oil. how can some state only have this ethonal mix, some cars cant run properly. If the government wants to force this **** on us then give us a free ticket to upgrade our cars so we can handle this fuel.
If this country was smart the would totally get rid of oil all together and look into hydrogen cars.

Well, here is all I know. Some people will argue that you can't feel the difference between turning the A/C Off or On while Running your stang out hard. I personally feel a very noticable change when I flip it off. I've been told that it could be no more than 5 or 10 HP change at the MAX. So my point is, I felt a massive shift in the torque and HP curves when I moved to E10. My car has run fine, yes it starts every day. But the performance has taken a hit, and that's all I have to say. I don't care what the government says or other people tell me. I felt the change, and I know that this E10 fuel does not perform as well as the old fuel did.
