Installation Time

RE: Installation Time
Well its a bit more involved for an EFI setup. But it should take you no longer than 3 hours to do the first time and thats if you are very slow and cautious.
A tip for you is to assemble as much as possible the night or day before that way it goes together in one big chunk and saves time.
Also because i dont want you to make the same mistake we all do atleast once use RTV silicone on the ends instead of the cork gaskets and be generous with it if it squeezes out you have enough and you can trim the excess off later after its dried.
Also you do not need to remove the distributor its a PITA and if you are careful and cautious you can maneuver it around the distributor but in order to do so you will need to remove the upper and lower cap on it.
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

RE: Installation Time
that's OK, you still need the gaskets. what the Killer is talking about is the short cork gaskets that go on the short ends of the lower intake manifold. use a good RTV sealer instead of the cork ones and make sure the RTV you get is safe to use with O2 sensors, some types will kill your O2 sensors if you're not careful to get the right stuff. let the RTV set up 10 minutes or so where it is still tacky but not so runny that is all squeezes out when you torque down the manifold. I too would wait for the heads and do the whole install at the same time. this way you don't have to worry about scraping the old gasket off the heads and letting trash get down into the lifter valley. when you squeeze out the RTV, do it in one steady smooth motion so you get a continuous bead from one head over to the other about 1/4" in diameter, you don't want any gaps in it or you will leak oil. plan on taking all day to do this and take your time. do you have the little plastic tools to disconnect the high pressure fittings on the fuel lines? get one of these before you start or you won't get too far. they cost less than $15 at most parts places. make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal too so the fuel pump can't run while you're doing all this work. bleed the fuel pressure off at the Schrader fitting near the front of the passenger side head before you attempt to loosen any fuel connections. the head bolts are torque to yield bolts, so you're only supposed to use them once. get some new ones and use a good torque wrench to tighten everything back up.
oh yeah, a box of bandaids is always a good thing to have around too!
I would recommend a cold beer also but you're too young for that too![sm=lol.gif]
