is it possible to just replace the ball joints on the front control arms or does the whole control arm have to be replaced!!!!!!!

you can replace the ball joint alone, not real fun though.

Yes, the original Ball joints are riveted in place. The rivets have to be drilled out or ground off and then the new Ball joints are bolted in place.
