odometer busted
my odometer broke recently. i took the cluster apart and found that the gears were broken. i got my hands on some new gears. i knew they worked because i was adjusting the mileage manually to get it back to the correct numbers. after plugging back the cluster and everything, the odometer is still busted. taking it to the dealer to get it fixed would set me back about 500 bucks. taking it to an odometer shop would set me back 300 bucks. any help would help. i'm not planning on selling the car anytime soon but would like to know my mileage for maintenance purposes.
what year Stang are you talking about? could be the speedo cable is messed up and that's maybe what trashed the gears in the first place. you could always go pull the complete dash console out of a car in the junkyard and install it and come out cheaper than taking it somewhere and getting them to fix it. You could also buy an aftermarket speedometer from Summit Racing or Jegs and install that in place of the stock one.

well, you can always just guess when to do maintenance and junk.
would you rather the value of your car go down?
