Cheap tweaks

RE: Cheap tweaks
Before I ask...please note I'm just asking a serious question...I'm not being sarcastic or anything with this.
Mdvaldosta, how high are your RPM's at 15mph in first gear? From what I've seen and heard 4.10's are great on the track but you are much better off with 3.73's for normal driving. But your right...I wouldn't go with the 3.55's...that would be a waste of time.

RE: Cheap tweaks
Cant remember off hand, probably around 3500 - 4k or so, I can tell you that my around town gas mileage has IMPROVED since putting the 4.10's in, and highway driving of course has went down - I rev 2500 rpm or so at 70 mph and 2900 rpm at 80mph in 5th. 4th gear redlines at about 105mph.
As far as the 4.10's only good for the track - that was the story back in the 5.0 days. Remember the 5.0's cam stock with 2.73's, the 4.6's come stock with 3.27's. Tire sizes and transmission gear ratios are different now.
Going from 2.73 to 3.73 nets an increase of 26.81% difference
Going from 3.27 to 4.10 nets an increase of 20.24% difference
So you see, a 3.73 ratio in a 5.0 is actually a bigger difference than going to a 4.10 in a 4.6
Class dismissed. :P

RE: Cheap tweaks
Plus usually if do exhuast and gears and such you don't do it all in one lump so you get them done gradually. If you had to save up all that money at once to get a supercharger(you can get like 6psi kits for under 2K) it would be a lot longer before you got to do anything. If you've got the money right off that's an option and then as you save up more smaller amounts of money you can do the rest.

RE: Cheap tweaks
some cheap mods.........there really is no such thing as a "cheap mod", cuz, when you start, u just wanna be faster and faster, unless thats just me......but, cheap mods.....remove the air silencer, add a k&n filter, or get a cai(cold air intake) from BBK or MAC, gears(id go w/ 4.10), or, you could just go the "easy" route and buy a nitrous kit for like $450/500 from NOS, Zex, or Venom, and get 75/150 extra hp w/ the push of a button, but, nitrous is hard on an engine if its not built for it.....definitely a full exhaust system......headers, off-road pipe and a catback, youre looking at about a 40-50hp increase(correct me if im wrong guys), or probably a little less actually. thats a few ideas

RE: Cheap tweaks
OK, maybe I should have done some research before I posted my last response. I removed the air silencer. Only took me 5 minutes, and no tools! I did notice that it exposed the air filter quite a bit. Is this the reason for the washable K and N filter? Are there any cons to this mod?
Thanks for all of the replys. Please be patient with me, I am good with cars, but this is my first Mustang.
Any other easy mods or suggestion like the air silencer? I plan on buying that filter this weekend.
